In the last subscription concerts of the 2016/17 season (all sold-out!) the argovia philharmonic under Douglas Bostock performed the neglected "Swiss" Symphony (No. 7 in D Minor) by the late Romantic Swiss composer, Hans Huber, on the occasion of the centenary of its composition and premiere in Basel. After the Symphony by Hermann Suter, this will be the second in a series of CDs featuring Romantic Swiss symphonies which the orchestra and Douglas Bostock are undertaking. The
The famous Tonhalle Zürich, where Douglas Bostock and his argovia philharmonic regularly appear, is to close its doors for 3 years for major renovation. Their last appearance was with 2 sold-out concerts with an all-Beethoven programme, with the violinist Sebastian Bohren on 8 May 2017. See you again in 2020!
Douglas Bostock has announced that he will step down as Principal Conductor of the argovia philharmonic in Switzerland as of the end of June 2019 after 18 years in the position. The board, musicians, society members and general public were informed in a series of letters and media communications. In the 2017/18 Season he will continue and conclude the Beethoven Symphony series. His final season as Principal Conductor, 2018/19, remains a well-kept secret! https://www.facebook.
