Douglas Bostock returned to one of his favourite cities, Porto in North Portugal, twice in three weeks in September and October, each time to teach conducting masterclasses in collaboration with Porto's Music University (ESMAE) and to conduct ensembles from the Banda Sinfónica Portuguesa in sensational programmes with music by Stravinsky, Weill, Rodrigo, Milhaud and others in the Casa da Música. Within one week in October two new CDs were released, both with music by British composers, both conducted by Douglas Bostock. The last one with the old orchestra, the Argovia Philharmonic (The English Connection), and the first one with his new orchestra, the Southwest German Chamber Orchestra (British Music for Strings I), including world premiere recordings.
The Soutwest German Chamber Orchestra and Douglas Bostock opened their Subscription Concert Series, celebrating their 70th Anniversary. Due to the restrictions in audience numbers resulting from Corona regulations, the programme was slightly shortened and performed twice on the same day. The Southwest German Radio (SWR2) recorded "Inspiration Klassik" with works by Mozart, Martinů Prokofiev (to be broadcast on 2nd November).
Douglas Bostock made his debut in Latvia with the Orķestris Rīga in the main hall of the National Symphony Orchestra on 2nd October 2020. It was the postponed concert from 30th March.. Despite a negative PCR test and being able to work freely with the orchestra, Douglas was require to be isolated in his hotel room when not working with the orchestra - another of the hardships of Corona in these unusual times.
