Elgar in Switzerland

Douglas Bostock continued his presentation of British orchestral music in his last season as Principal Conductor of the Argovia Philharmonic in MArch. The three Subscription Concerts "Discovery UK" included works by Holst and Delius along side the first Swiss performance of Gordon Jacob's masterful orchestration of Elgar's Organ Sonata in G. Olivers Schnyder was the brilliant soloist, as so often at the side of Douglas Bostock during his tenure with the Argovia Philharmonic, this time in Britten's Piano Concerto, an eye-opener for the audiences.

In a slightly varied programme with music by Purcell, Parry and the Elgar/Jacob opus, Uli Poschner (the Argovia Phil's concertmaster) was the polished soloist in Vaughan Williams' "The Lark Ascending".
