Holst in Osaka

Douglas Bostock returned to the renowned Osaka Shion Wind Orchestra in January to conduct a highly acclaimed all-Holst programme, including The Planets in Osaka's Symphony Hall.

It is not widely known that the first four movements of the suite were transcribed for wind orchestra during the composer's lifetime and sanctioned by him. Thus, performance of the complete work may be considered legitimate. Holst's love of the wind orchestra can be seen in the other works on the programme: the two Suites, Marching Song and his arrangement of Bach's Fugue à la Gigue. A live-CD will be made out of the programme.
